why here I started my adventure in Edinburgh in 2009, coming here totally by faith, knowing very little about what to expect. But I heard clearly, there was something special here for me and there was no other place to be for that season.
why sew Passion for nature, restoration and the love of textiles brought me to a place of wanting to take the 'old' and make it 'new', preserve it so it wouldn't fade away quickly.
my background My background is in product quality control and perhaps that will always be seen in my products, there is always a scope for improvement but my standard is to always deliver high. Sewing has always been a part of my life; my grandfather was a tailor and I grew up watching and learning from him though he believed no-one could do it as well as him!
the bees Now, the bees. One of the many things my grandfather was skilled at was keeping honey bees. Some of my fondest memories from childhood are of helping him at the family farm to collect honey. They are amazing creatures and I really loved the bees; I could never be amazed enough with them. Sadly, the bees haven't been doing very well over the last few years and they died shortly after my grandfather passed away after 91 busy years. The family like to think the bees died because they missed granddad so much but the reality is that today's farming techniques caused their demise. hope We need to hope. I realise, there is a sense of hopelessness with the bees as many farmers near my home village abuse the use of chemicals in the name of profit and that mindset is going to be very hard to change. It may seem a very small thing but the death of our bees spurred me think about how we run our economy, what's in the food we eat that we cannot see and why do shops need to sell the perfect peach? A peach that would not exist if it were not for the bees!
giant honey peach The Giant Honey Peach is a memory collection for granddad and a seed of hope for those who care about bees. It also stands for awareness, we ought to care about the environment we live in and it is for our good to do so.
